G.U.L.F. Quarterly review-2008    

As the dog days of summer beat upon our heads, we may feel the heat and humidity draining our energy,but it's never been enough to slow the women's groups of Florida down. Over the past few months we have seen additional activities being added to group schedules in Pasco, Hernando,Citrus and Pinellas counties. Some activities are as far reaching as Tampa, where they continue to build a united front of dinner out meetings.

If you follow the Pro Suzy web site all of this information is easily available to everyone -- there's plenty to do for all the women who choose Florida as a home base. Both our Northern, Southern, and Central Florida communities have seen the expansion and development of new groups, all of which benefits each of us. Dinner groups have seen a wonderful turn out, rotating to different restaurants monthly, and drawing in 15 to 25 women each event. Now what could be better than getting involved in fun activities, then finishing your evening off by sharing dinner with friends.

Last weekend we started our day at a 4 pm, attending PHWN group Ice Cream social. The ice cream was refreshing and over 20 women attended, most of which continued their evening by visiting the NPR Library's Reel Pride film festival. We were previously committed to attend a 5;30 potluck, so off we went to the Rainbow Potluck. What's great about our resource in Florida, is the many activities we all have to choose from.

Both Pro Suzy and Womyn's Words have provided all of us with this vital information. Don't spend your summer inside, or alone, get out and mingle. There are lots of things happening all over ... Use our web site-www.gulfwomyn.com, and check out our advanced listing of fun events. From T-Dances to potlucks, movie nights and bowling. Join Wendi&Terri at HLO for breakfast out, and explore the development of several new energized groups. GULF has always encouraged women to join as many groups as you possibly can, diversity is the key, and each group offers something unique. So don't miss out on any opportunities.

As for GULF, we are now proud to be back on track with our new committee members. We are once again seven plus one alternate. Our committee members are all energetic, creative women, working together to serve our community, and hopefully have some fun while doing this. Our annual May Picnic is already booked in 2009, and we have our favorite shelter # 9 locked in again. We now begin planning the rest of our events for 2009. We are looking to add some unique new activities for your relaxation pleasure in the coming year.

Just added to our committee of seven women is our new alternate Rosemarie. She will be covering any committee members absences, planned or unplanned, and always using her creative ideas as additions to our growth and development. Welcome back Rosemarie.

GULF is here to share information and stay actively involved with our community of women. We also  provide additional support to designated charities. It is the continued support that you all have shown us, that gives us the success we have seen in meeting the needs of our designated charities -- Battered Women's Shelters, Hospice,American Heart Association, Cancer Research, Paws, No kill Animal Shelter, the Humane Society, and Toys 4 Tots,these have all benefited through your giving hearts.

GULF thanks each and everyone of you for your support of our T-Dances. Without those funds we could not reach out as we do.

GULF continues its affiliation with ProSuzy, and reaps the full benefit of being adopted. Our dance and potluck attendance have definitely grown. The last potluck at Judy&Louise,s home saw over 50 women attending and lots of food selections for everyone. Even though we were unable to attend, we heard how much fun was had by many -- a great job ladies!

In closing, we thank Amy our webmaster, she has done a wonderful job in keeping GULF out there for all womyns' use, and I say this in a positive way. I thank Waterside also, it is my understanding that they are working on improving and upgrading the female bathrooms, something we surely needed. Finally, for all of the womyn who have supported the efforts of GULF, we gratefully thank each and everyone of you -- without you, we do not exist... Committee members of GULF.
